VISIT THE NORTHERN FREE STATE
ON YOUR DOORSTEP
The tranquil atmosphere of the Northern Free State Tourism region offers wonderful and exciting outdoor orientated tourism opportunities to weekend visitors.
Towns within the Northern Free State region includes Deneysville, Edenville, Frankfort, Heilbron, Koppies, Kroonstad, Oranjeville, Parys, Sasolburg, Tweeling, Villiers, Viljoenskroon and Vredefort.
A rich culture-historical inheritance confirms interest from own ranks and many leisure hours are spent at the interesting culture-historical museums at Parys and Heilbron. The Matabele battlefield at Vegkop in Heilbron and various battlefields in the Koppies and Kroonstad region where important battles were fought and events during the Boer Wars took place, are some examples. Impressive sandstone buildings throughout the region reflects interesting building styles and elegance from days gone by. Various sandstone buildings in the Kroonstad and Heilbron region are therefore declared national memorabilia.
Although the region became an industrial region with the establishment of Sasol during the fifties in Sasolburg, it is, however, an attractive and tranquil rustic region. During the summer months the sunflowers, mealie, wheat and grain lands are surrounded by the pastel colours of vast cosmos fields a scene to enjoy!
